BOURJOIS SO LAQUE ULTRA ORANGE NAIL LACQUER (£5.99, Boots, boots.com, Superdrug)
This bright new orange is bang on trend and suits everyone, regardless of their skin tone. It looks great on fingernails, is quick-drying and lasts for days.
SALLY HANSEN’S DIAMOND STRENGTH CUTICLE + NAIL OIL (£8.12, boots.com)
A good cuticle oil is essential. This is good if you have dry, rough cuticles or dull, weak nails. Massage in to increase circulation to the nail bed and stimulate the new nail. Or you can use olive oil as an inexpensive alternative.
SISLEYA HAND CARE (£88.50, 020 7591 6380)
This is at the top end of the price range, but it is the queen of hand creams (and the one used for Kate Middleton’s Royal Wedding manicure). Packed with nutrients and moisturisers, it is the ultimate treat.
MAVALA NAIL-WHITE CRAYON (£3.70, John Lewis)
For natural-looking nails, remove polish, then shape with a file and draw a line of white pencil under the nail for a clean effect. This is a great tip if you are short of time.

NAILTIQUES NAIL PROTEIN FORMULA 1 (£18.40, lookfantastic.com)
You need a good base coat and this one is the best I have found. It protects the nails and keeps them soft. This multi-tasking product can also be used as a top coat over your nail polish.
BEST TIP: If your nails look a bit yellow, buff them really hard for one minute with Nails Inc Miracle Buffer (£5.40, John Lewis).
THE EXPERT: James Read, an international tanning expert, lists Lady Gaga, Mariah Carey and the top model Rosie Huntington-Whiteley among his celebrity clients.
TOP TREND: This summer is about the deep Seventies retro tan – darker, deeper tans are fashionable again. But if that is not for you, then you could opt for the lighter version, which is called the complexion tan. This is about using products to enhance the skin with colour, but are not too overpowering.
HE-SHI DAY TO DAY GRADUAL TAN (£14.50, House of Fraser)
For a subtle light tone.

L’OREAL PARIS SUBLIME BRONZE EXPRESS PRO SPRAY (£13.33 for the Pro Spray Tanning Kit, Boots)
If you want a medium tone.
FAKE BAKE ORIGINAL SELF-TAN LOTION (£25.50, fakebake.co.uk)
To achieve a dark skin tone if you want to go for the deepest shade possible.
SISLEY SUN GLOW GEL FOR THE FACE (£48.50, 020 7591 6380)
Faces need to be lighter than bodies, so you should use a different product. This one gives you a really natural colour. Rub an ice cube over your face first to close the pores.
CHANEL SOLEIL TAN DE CHANEL BRONZER (£32.50, 020 7493 3836)
One of the best make-up bronzers I have ever used. The Bronze Corail and Bronze Rose shades are limited editions for the summer collection.

ST TROPEZ WASH-OFF INSTANT GLOW MOUSSE (£15.32, Boots)
A wash-off mousse is a great quick fix and this is perfect for an instant tan. Start from the face and work down your body, leaving your hands and feet until last.
JURLIQUE CITRUS BODY CARE LOTION (£26.50, jurlique.co.uk)
This lotion smells wonderful and feels luxurious. Moisturise daily to prolong your self-tan and exfoliate after three to four days so your tan fades evenly.
BEST TIP: For instant luminosity, crush bronzer powder and mix with thick moisturiser. The combination of products reflect the light. Before you apply your selftanning product, go over your body with a wet wipe, such as Nivea Visage Refreshing Facial Wipes (£1.50, Asda). This will ensure your tanner will go on more smoothly.
THE EXPERT: Stylist Toby Rundle’s clients include Nigella Lawson, Amanda Redman and Yasmin Le Bon.
TOP TREND: This summer’s style is rough-dried, sun-dipped and beach-friendly.
DENMAN FREEFLOW HAIRBRUSH (£5.52, denmanbrush.com)
Particularly good if you’re putting your hair up, because it gives a good grip. It also detangles long hair without snagging.
From left: Sebastian Halo Mist and Moroccan Oil Treatment
SEBASTIAN HALO MIST (£14.79, lookfantastic.com)
My favourite product – it can be used on wet or dry hair to give a healthy, shiny glow. Perfect for keeping salt water or chlorine-treated pool water from damaging your hair.
MOROCCAN OIL TREATMENT (£12.85, lookfantastic.com)
Protection from the sun is key if you want great-looking hair. Use some form of light oil – even sun oil – and work it through the hair to create a barrier between the sun and your tresses.
WELLA PROFESSIONAL BRILLIANCE TREATMENT (£24.95, lookfantastic.com)
A great treatment for fine to normal. Diamond gives a brilliant vibrancy to coloured hair (particularly redheads). And it has a fabulous scent.
BEST TIP: Once hair has been washed, rough-dry it, twist into a bun, secure with a clip and leave to dry naturally. Then all you have to do it shake it loose to achieve a wavy summer beach look. You don’t need to use any products, but you could leave in some conditioner.
THE EXPERT: Kay Montano is creative director of myface cosmetics and her celebrity clients include Anne Hathaway, Keira Knightley, Nicole Kidman, Thandie Newton and Gwyneth Paltrow.
TOP TREND: The look for summer is minimal eye make-up and pretty lashes with bright, moisture-rich lips in raspberry or watermelon with golden, dewy skin. I love the myface lip pop lip
gloss in 135 I Like Boys (£7.99, boots.com): it gives a beautiful glossy finish with a hint of fruity red.
MYMIX FOUNDATION BY MYFACECOSMETICS (£12.99, Boots and myfacecosmetics.com)
This is sheer enough to wear in the day. Its light, dewy quality creates a perfect base.

LAURA MERCIER INVISIBLE TRANSLUCENT POWDER (£29, House of Fraser)
The finest, most invisible powder.
CHANEL JOUES CONTRASTE POWDER BLUSH IN ROSE TOURBILLON (£30, 020 7493 3836)
The ideal blush for summer. It is a light-reflective candy pink for healthy, glowing cheeks.
SHISEIDO SHIMMERING ROUGE EBLOUISSANT RD709 (£19.50, 0207 313 4774)
It’s the perfect moisture-rich sheer rose tint for everyday wear — a mixture of a lipstick and lipgloss,
with a lovely texture.
JAPONESQUE PROFESSIONAL EYELASH CURLERS (£9.20, John Lewis)
The most perfect eyelash curler, which makes tired eyes look perky in an instant. The wideopen
cage means you can curl lashes with just one squeeze.
BEST TIP: Stick to accentuating one area, lips or eyes, for maximum impact. Avoid matte, chalky mineral powders. If you have oily skin or like to be matte, use blotting papers or fine loose powder.
Blot lipstick after application with a tissue before applying lip gloss. You can apply your lipstick with a brush for accuracy, but it looks great when it’s simply dabbed on.
