Well, first when I heard about donkey milk, I found it chucklesome. However, it piqued my curiosity to know about it. That is when I started reading about donkey milk and found out that it is not only very similar to human breast and cow milk, but it also has several medicinal and cosmetic uses. I also found out that Cleopatra apparently bathed in donkey milk to preserve the vitality and beauty of her skin.

So, my dear readers, I decided to share all the information I got about donkey milk and the various health benefits it has.

What are the benefits of donkey milk?

Not many people are aware of the fact that donkey milk has been used since antiquity for cosmetic and medicinal purposes. Though it is as nutritious as cow and human breast milk, it also has a longer shelf life as it is antimicrobial and usually doesn’t contain foodborne pathogens.

Here are the other health benefits of donkey milk:

    Donkey milk is a better substitute for human breast milk than cow milk as it has a low allergy risk. It has also been used to feed infants for centuries.

  • According to some studies, donkey milk can also help reduce stomach illnesses caused by viruses and bacteria.
  • Donkey milk can also reduce the inflammatory reactions in your body by stimulating the release of immune response cells – macrophages, natural killer cells, and cytotoxic T cells.
  • Donkey milk is also very good for the skin as it attracts and retains water, thereby making it an excellent moisturiser. So, the cosmetic products which have donkey milk in them are extra hydrating. It can also help with irritated skin.
  • As donkey milk has a high whey protein content, some researchers believe that it might help in treating Type 2 diabetes. However, there are no studies to prove it yet.
  • We talked about the benefits of donkey milk; however, it’s downside is its price and availability. Nevertheless, if you want to incorporate donkey milk in your skincare routine, you can use the cosmetic products made with it.
